The Vancouver Sun Run Mega Store is in the process of being stocked and the placard now reads: Open for Business.
So, what is the connection between BC Place, the Vancouver Sun Run, and White Rock/South Surrey?
In 1985, Doug and Diane Clement, South Rock’s own Paul Williams and Lynn Kanuka, and Dr. Jack Taunton founded the ever-popular VANCOUVER SUN RUN.
Then, in the early 90’s, the Vancouver Sun bought the Sun Run for a dollar. $1! As a result, Williams’, Pen Run running stores remain the official retailer to the Sun Run, along with Rand Clement’s, The Right Shoe and Racquets & Runners on Oak Street. To this day, they run a retail consortium known as the Sun Run Stores during the event.
Again this year, more than 40,000 participants will have an opportunity to shop at The SUN RUN store on the floor inside BC Place from April 20 – 22.
Multiple-time Olympians in their own right, Paul Williams, and Lynn Kanuka have each won the Vancouver Sun Run twice in the respective men’s and women’s divisions. Kanuka also created the 13-week Sun Run INTRAINING program, which helps thousands of walkers, joggers, and runners prepare for the giant 10K event each year.
Canada’s largest 10K event begins at 9:00 am on Sunday, April 22. For details on the event, the course, and other Vancouver Sun Run activities see their website. Good luck to all participants this weekend!
